Baldur's Gate 3 is Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023

A big win with six awards. Larian Studios

Larian Studios is ending the year on a high note as Baldur's Gate 3 has been named Game of the Year during The Game Awards 2023. In that major category, the game beat out other titles like Alan Wake 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

That's not the only reason why the studio is celebrating. It's because the game also brough home five other awards. These include Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer Game, Players' Voice, and Best Performance by Neil Newbon who voiced Astarion.

Released in August 2023, Baldur's Gate 3 offers is a story-rich and party-based RPG that's set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons. In the game players make choices that shape the story of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power.

Baldur's Gate 3 also won multiple awards during the Golden Joystick Awards which included Best Storytelling, Ultimate Game of the Year, and PC Games of the Year, to name a few.

Baldur's Gate 3 wasn't the only game that won several awards. Alan Wake 2 took home three awards which are Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction.

While it was a good night for Baldur's Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 went home empty handed. Other winners are:

  • Best VR/AR Game: Resident Evil Village
  • Innovation in Accessibility: Forza Motorsport
  • Best Action Game: Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon
  • Best Action/Adventure Game: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Best Fighting Game: Street Fighter 6
  • Best Family Game: Super Mario Bros. Wonder
  • Best Sports/Racing Game: Forza Motorsport
  • Best SIM/Strategy Game: Pikmin 4
  • Content Creator of the Year: IronMouse (VTuber)
  • Best Esports Athlete: Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok (League of Legends)
  • Best Esports Coach: Christine "potter" Chi (Valorant)
