A new update is now live in Baldur’s Gate 3 which adds the Barbarian class. Players can also look forward to enjoying the improvised weapons. There are also improvements like the overhauled HUD UI.

Hailing from the wilds of Faerûn, these brutal warriors are fueled by nature’s fury and are merciless in the heat of battle. Indeed, they are most at home in the middle of a fight as it lets them channel their inner Rage to bring out truly devastating actions.

Two Subclasses

The Barbarian class joins the battle with two subclasses. The first is the Berserker which can grow Rage into a relentless frenzy and gain the ability to deal additional damage in the heat of battle. When filled with Rage, the Barbarian can use improvised weapons as a bonus action to do extra damage.

The second subclass is the Wildheart which draws the power of the Bestial Heart and wields ferocious combat abilities inspired by the eagle, elk, tiger, bear, or wolf. The Wildheart Barbarian can flaunt unique facial piercings based on which animal they choose to guide them. The five Bestial Hearts are:

  • Bear Heart
    • Provides players with self-heal.
  • Eagle Heart
    • Introduces a dive attack from above.
  • Elk Heart
    • Gives a Stampede rush attack to flatten enemies.
  • Tiger Heart
    • Offers a coned Cleave attack that inflicts bleeding.
  • Wolf Heart
    • Buff allies using a Pack Howl to help them move further during their turn.

Weapons Improvements

Players can expect the new thrown weapons like Daggers, Javelins, Handaxes, and even Spears. These thrown weapons deal damage based on their Damage stats instead of their weight. Barbarians start the game with two Handaxes in addition to their primary Greataxe weapon.

Speaking of throwing, players can now throw objects or characters whose weight is three times their Strength ability score. The range of the throw scales on the Strength and the object’s weight.

Then there are the improvised weapons. These pretty much let players attack using non-standard weapons, such as furniture, instruments, animals, limbs. It’s even possible to use NPCs as Improvised Melee Weapons.
