Assault Suits Valken Declassified is finally available on Nintendo Switch. This title is exclusive on the platform and can be purchased digitally for $24.99 on the Nintendo eShop. The game is an unedited and uncensored localization of the original game titled Assault Suits Valken, released in 1992 for Famicom/SNES.

In celebration of the launch, a new trailer was released which highlighted the iconically retro gameplay along with new content additions.

Assault Suits Valken is set in a futuristic world where two opposing factions of the Union and the Federation are at war with each other for control of the dwindling fossil fuels of the planet. Jake Brain and his Union platoon need to pilot their fortified mecha through a range of challenging run-and-gun missions and accomplish their mission of destroying the Federation government’s most powerful weapon known as the Bildvorg.

The new features and bonus content as part of Assault Suits Valken Declassified include:

  • Unedited and uncensored version of Assaults Suits Valken with a new English translation.
  • New recreation of the 80-page Japanese Guidebook translated into English.
  • Inclusion of both the arranged and game soundtracks.
  • New interview with Satoshi Nakai about the original game’s mecha design.
  • New artwork by Satoshi Urusihihara, the original game’s character designer.
  • New “Retro Color” screen filter, along with regular CRT and scanlines options.
  • Super Play of the game with its “good ending.”
  • Save/Load states as well as Replay record and playback functionality.

In a statement, Rainmaker Productions Creative Director Ollie Barder shared that when they were working on this new game, they wanted something that would honor the legacy of the original one while also offering a more enriched experience through the addition of new content and new English localization. He added that they’re proud of the work that they’ve done and hope that players in the US can enjoy the experience.

This re-release was made possible by Rainmaker Productions in partnership with M2 Co., Ltd. As mentioned, this version not only has the game but also includes the recreated and translated version of the original 80-page Assault Suits Valken Japanese guidebook, which comes with new and never-before-seen artwork.

What do you think? Can you guide Jake Brain to victory?
