Assassin’s Creed Origins has Gladiator Arenas full of tough boss fights that grant huge amounts of XP and Legendary loot. If you want all those rewards from taking down difficult foes, here’s a guide with everything you should know.

HOW TO UNLOCK THE GLADIATOR ARENAS

  • Krokodilopolis: Finish a side quest called The Champion, which is best suited for level 23. You’ll meet an old fighter who teaches you the basics of the gladiator games. You’ll see it when you discover the Faiyum Oasis.
  • Cyrene: Finish the level-30 side quest Lure Of Glory in the Kyrenaika territory. The owner of Krokodilopolis will send you there. You should be at level 34 and eventually 40 to beat each challenge.

THE KROKODILOPOLIS ARENA

Brothers I: You should be at level 29, or level 34 if you’re playing on elite. You’re given a regular sword and shield, and there’s one spike trap in the arena. Here’s what each wave of enemies looks like.

  • Wave 1: Four level 27 soldiers
  • Wave 2: Four level 27 soldiers and one level 25
  • Wave 3: Two level 27 soldiers and two level 23 soldiers

Brothers II: Another fight with a regular sword and shield. This time there are spiked pillars, spikes on the ground and a level 27 lion.

  • Wave 1: Three level 27 soldiers, one level 25
  • Wave 2: Two level 27 soldiers and a heavy soldier
  • Wave 3: Two level 27 soldiers, a heavy and an uncaged lion

Brothers III: A regular sword-and-shield fight. There are stationary and moving pillars with spikes, spikes on the ground and a death pit.

  • Wave 1: Three level 27 soldiers, level 26 royal guard
  • Wave 2: Level 27 soldier, level 25 soldier and a heavy
  • Wave 3: Two level 27 soldiers, one super soldier

Boss - The Brothers : You face two enemies in this fight: one with chains and one with a scythe. Here’s how you win:

Split these brothers up by running across the arena.

  • When the scythe enemy reaches forward for a throw, evade backward.
  • When you see the scythe start swinging, dodge to the side and whack the chained foe with your sword. Once he starts getting mad, just side-step his incoming jump attack.
  • The chained enemy loves to throw you, so jump back when he gets too close.
  • If the scythe enemy starts charging you, keep dodging backward until he finishes the barrage of blows. Watch out for his spin, and whack him when he’s weak after it.
  • The trick is to split the brothers up, so run from side to side across the arena and hit whoever catches up to Bayek first.

The Slaver I : You should be at level 30 for this. Bayek fights with a heavy blade and shield.

  • Wave 1: Two level 30 soldiers, two 28 soldiers
  • Wave 2: Two level 28 heavy soldiers, one 29 and one level 30
  • Wave 3: One level 29 soldier, one 30 archer, one 28 heavy, one 27 heavy

Slaver II : Heavy blade and shield again. This time there’s a death pit and spikes on the ground.

  • Wave 1: Two 30 soldiers, one 28 heavy, one 29 heavy
  • Wave 2: Two 30 soldiers, one 29 archer, two 28 heavies
  • Wave 3: Two level 29 heavies, and one level 30 heavy

Slaver III : Same deal, without traps this time.

  • Wave 1: Two 30 soldiers, one 29 archer, one 30 heavy
  • Wave 2: One 30 soldier, one 30 archer, one 29 heavy
  • Wave 3: One level 29 heavy and one level 30 heavy

Boss - Slaver: Same weapons in an arena with spiked pillars. Here’s how to win.

  • Position yourself so that the pillars stand between you and your enemy. That way you have time to recover health. Make sure you don’t accidentally dodge backward into them.
  • When he starts slowing down for a huge swing, dodge backward and keep doing so until the combo ends.
  • Watch out for his two quick lunge attacks. Avoid these by keeping your distance.
  • He may taunt you, which gives you time to get in three good hits if you’re close by.
  • When on the ground, evade his stab then jump back in for a couple quick hits.

THE CRYENE ARENA

Hammer I: Get to level 34. You’ll be fighting with a standard sword and shield. There are spikes on the ground.

Hammer III: Same weapons, pillar spikes, spikes on the ground and a death pit.

  • Wave 1: Two 34 soldiers, one 31 heavy, one 34 heavy
  • Wave 2: Two 34 soldiers, two 30 soldiers
  • Wave 3: Two 32 heavies

Boss - Hammer: You should be at level 34. Weapons are the same with no arena traps. Here’s how to win:

Hammer deals lots of damage, so jump backward as he prepares to swing.

  • Move between the pillars for a break, but do so quickly. Don’t let the boss swing his hammer or they’ll break.
  • When he swings his hammer on the ground, he’ll slam down a few times afterward. Keep your distance and attack when he’s forced to slow down.
  • When he comes forward and pulls back to slam the hammer into the ground, sidestep it and return some blows.
  • Watch out for his full hammer swings. He always does two of them. Don’t be fooled after one. After the second, then you can unleash your attack.
  • When he starts lunging forward, get away as fast as possible.

Axes I: Bet at level 35. You’ll be fighting with a sickle sword and shield in an arena with ground spikes.

  • Wave 1: Four 34 soldiers, one 27 super soldier
  • Wave 2: Four 34 soldiers
  • Wave 3: Three 31 soldiers, two 34 archers

  • Wave 2: Three 34 soldiers, one 29 soldier
  • Wave 3: Four 31 soldiers, one 31 super soldier, two 28 Hyenas

Boss - Axes : You should be at level 34. Weapons are the same with no arena traps. Here’s how you’ll win:

Axes is definitely a distance fight. If he crosses his weapons, run for your life.

  • Evade quickly and keep your distance to avoid a barrage of headbutts.
  • When he swings to the left, dodge backward to avoid his lunging strike. When he hits the ground, move in for a strike.
  • When he does the jump attack where he crosses his weapons, dodge to the side and hit him once the animation ends.
  • If he crosses his axes, get away or block until the incoming combo ends. You can use the Overpower ability to cut it off in the middle, but it’s a risky venture.

Hoplite I: Bet at level 35. You’ll be fighting with a heavy weapon and shield. Traps include spikes on the ground and spike pillars.

  • Wave 1: Four 35 soldiers, one 35 heavy
  • Wave 2: Two 35 soldiers, two 34 soldiers
  • Wave 3: Two 35 soldiers, two 34 soldiers, two 34 archers

Hoplite II : Bet at level 35. Same weapons apply with moving pillars, spikes on the ground and a death pit.

  • Wave 1: One 35 soldiers, two 34 soldiers, two 33 heavies
  • Wave 2: Four 35 soldiers, one 33 super soldier

  • Wave 2: One 34 soldier, two 33 heavies
  • Wave 3: Two 35 soldiers, two 34 soldiers, one 33 heavy, one 33 predator, two 30 lions

Boss - Hoplite: You should be at level 35. Weapons are the same with no arena traps. Here’s how you’ll win:

Your weapon is very slow against the Hoplite, so be deliberate with your strikes.

  • Evade his spear attacks for maximum efficiency. If he holds up his spear he’ll take a quick stab at you. If he pulls back, he’ll perform a heavy stab or more deliberate circular spin.
  • Evade his attacks while on the ground and respond in kind.
  • If he pulls back his arm he may throw his spear at you. Dodge to the side and prepare for some sword attacks.
  • Keep your distance to avoid throws or pushbacks.
  • Use your shield to defend against his sword attacks.
  • Because your weapon is so slow, only take one or two strikes at a time and make sure to time them well.

Seleucid I: Bet at level 36. You’ll be fighting with a spear and shield with spikes on the ground, fire traps, flaming pillars and a death pit.

  • Wave 1: Three 35 soldiers, one 34 archer, one 35 super soldier

  • Wave 3: Two 35 soldiers, one 34 archer, one 33 heavy

  • Wave 2: One 34 soldier, two 32 soldiers, one 33 archer, one 32 heavy
  • Wave 3: Two 34 soldiers, two 32 archers, one 33 heavy

Boss - Seleucid: You should be at level 36. You’ll use the long spear and shield. The arena has fire traps. Here’s how you’ll win:

The Seleucid is vulnerable to light attacks up close.

  • When the boss uses his pike like a vault, keep dodging backward.
  • Side-dodge his harpoons when he starts throwing them.
  • Keep your distance as he swings the pike and avoid the two swings. If he lifts the pike, move backward then dodge to the side.
  • As you whittle away at his health he’ll start doing a new jump-stab move.
  • He adds fire to his pike once half his health is gone.
  • Use your light attack up close and use your heavy from a distance. Don’t go for more than two hits at once.

Duelist I: Bet at level 38. You’ll be fighting with a sword and shield with a poison pit and snakes.

  • Wave 1: Three 37 soldiers, two 36 archers, one 35 super soldier

Duelist II : Same weapons with a fire pit and snakes.

  • Wave 1: Two 37 soldiers, two 36 archers one 37 predator
  • Wave 2: Two 37 soldiers, two 36 soldiers, one 20 predator

  • Wave 2: One 37 soldier, two 36 soldiers, one 35 predator, one 35 super soldier
  • Wave 3: One 37 soldier, one 35 predator, two 35 super soldiers

Boss - Duelist: You should be at level 38. You’ll use a regular sword and shield. The arena has no traps. Here’s how you’ll win:

The Duelist is another distance fight. Watch out for her deadly poison.

  • At half health she can poison you, which stops your health regen.
  • Keep moving between the arena’s pillars till your health is regained. She may run up to the pillars to attack you, so sidestep the lunge.
  • Fight at a distance and move in only when she’s open. The shield isn’t that effective here. Strike fast and get out.
  • Stay far away to avoid her throws. If you’re knocked down on the ground, dodge her prone strike and get a few swipes in.
  • When she kneels, pull back heavily to avoid her jumping strike.

After that you’ll be a champion gladiator with lots of high-level loot. Enjoy the spoils of your victories, because now you’ll be able to take down anything in your path.
