‘Arrow’ Season 5 Flashbacks Will Show Why Olicity Broke Up

The Olicity breakup seemed to happen so fast. One minute, Oliver is helping Felicity recover from paralysis, and the next, Felicity finds out about Ollie’s son William and it’s relationship over. This came after months of the happiest we’ve ever seen the two characters. Oliver was even learning to become quite the chef in the kitchen while taking a break from vigilantism. But when it came time to break the news to Oliver, Felicity had her mind 100 percent made up. There wasn’t any back and forth discussion. Of course, Oliver tried to change her mind but Felicity wasn’t having it. So what really happened?

Apparently there’s some more drama and we are going to find out what it is in Season 5 episode 20, “Underneath.” One specific event in the episode prior, “Dangerous Liaisons,” will prompt this second look at the downfall of Olicity. Stephen Amell describes 5x19 as Felicity Vs. Team Arrow. The synopsis reveals Felicity will be running point at Helix trying to take down Adrian Chase, while Team Arrow will be doing the same without her help. This could cause some conflict, and considering Oliver doesn’t even really know the full story of what Felicity has been up to, it’s not going to be pretty. Some old feelings could be stirred up by their deteriorating friendship and that may be where some old flashbacks come into play.

“The flashbacks are to a different time period, as we occasionally do. They take place between Seasons 4 and 5,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told TVLine, referring to 5x20. “Something happens in 519 that really tees up this conversation.”

Check out the “Dangerous Liaison” synopsis below. What do you think happens in 5x19 that stirs up Olicity drama? Let us know in the comments.

Oliver (Stephen Amell), Team Arrow, ARGUS and the SCPD kick off a citywide manhunt for Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra). Helix tells Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) they have a way to find Chase but they will need something big, and illegal, from her in return. Joel Novoa directed the episode written by Speed Weed & Elizabeth Kim.

Arrow returns on April 26.
