Furthering the push to cater to cord cutters, who shy away from expensive cable subscriptions, Amazon now offers an option where users can purchase its Prime Video streaming service separate from Amazon Prime. For $8.99 per month, users can have unlimited access to the Prime Video library.

But is the standalone service worth it without Amazon Prime? Not really. Amazon Prime may seem like a tough sell, with its $99 yearly charge. However, the service includes free two-day shipping, unlimited music streaming, access to an extensive ebook library, Lightning deals previews, free-same day delivery where applicable and a 25 percent prepayment discount, in addition to unlimited access to the Prime Video library..

For Prime Video, subscribers would be paying $107.88 for the video library alone. The service is $8.88 more expensive for significantly fewer perks.

Amazon is also offering a month-to-month subscription for Amazon Prime, at $10.99. That equates to $131.88 per year and is $32.88 more expensive than the yearly Prime subscription.

The only difference between the full Prime membership and the monthly membership is the prepayment discount.

So for those looking to save some dollars, the $99 yearly subscription would likely be the best option.

Of course, Amazon will get your hard earned cash anyway, as items with free two-day shipping tend to be more expensive that those with paid shipping. In the end, customers end up paying roughly the same amount.
