Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed is arriving on US shores on July 20. It’s going to be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. This announcement comes as the Akiba’s Trip series is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
The game takes place in what is clearly an accurately modeled Akihabara of 2011. For those not familiar, this is the famous electric town of Japan. Players get the chance to explore the busy streets and even back alleys. However, hiding in the shadows is a seedy underworld.
Players take on the role of Nanashi and the story starts when they find their missing friend bleeding and unconscious in an alley. Suddenly, Nanashi is attacked by a menacing figure that seems to be straight out of a horror story and left to die. Just as he is about to die, a mysterious woman appears and offers some of her blood. Upon accepting it, Nanashi’s life is both saved and changed.
In fact, Nanashi has become a Shadow Soul, the very same creature that attacked him as well as his friend. While it does give him superhuman strength and stamina, he is vulnerable to sunlight. Nanashi now needs to deal with a group of inhuman monsters known as the family of Shadow Souls and NIRO, a covert agency whose goal is to take down paranormal threats.
Calling themselves the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” Nanashi and his friends battle to keep the peace in Akihabara and prevent an all-out war from starting.
