The new DLC for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition called African Royals has recently been released. But to ensure you with a smooth gaming experience, Ensemble Studios released Update 38254 that implements bug fixes, stability improvements, and more.

Age of Empires III has a passionate player base. That said, the developers have fixed a lot of the issues that were reported by the community. For instance, they’ve implemented a potential fix for a bug where you can get stuck at the launching screen, while staring at the “waiting for other players” message.

Aside from that, the devs assure that the game is stable all throughout. Thus, they’ve implemented additional protections and logging to prevent the D3D11 crash.

As for general gameplay improvements, you can expect better attack-move behavior. The range to enemy targets at which attack-moving units would break formation and attack has been increased from 20 distance units to 30.

Mortars can sometimes “forget” to attack enemy targets even though they are in range. This usually happens when they are ordered to attack-move along with your other units. Fortunately, you do not have to worry about this since it's fixed in this update.

User Interface

Isn’t it annoying to see the “Claim Weekly Profile Image” message pop up every time you return to the main menu? The devs have finally squashed this pesky bug.

You will also see the text trimming feature in effect, especially when you see players with long usernames in multiplayer lobbies and SP skirmishes.

Lobbies and Matchmaking

There are instances where you can get stuck while waiting for other players in a ranked game lobby. A potential fix has been implemented that may squash this bug. If this still occurs, you should let the devs know immediately.

In the latest update, saved games will no longer require resigned or defeated players to continue.

In addition, the issue where a host gets rejected when trying to rejoin a restored multiplayer saved game if a player’s previous slot was already allocated has been fixed.

While the developers did well fixing many issues, they understand that you may still experience game instabilities and disconnects.

If you experience any, file a detailed report and send it to the support team to have it addressed.

If you want to know what other things have been implemented by the update, you can read the complete patch notes here.
