Absolver's Weapons, Powers And Online-Only Collector's Editions Detailed By Sloclap

Absolver Devolver / Sloclap

A new trailer for Absolver is out this week, spotlighting the many weapons and abilities we’ll be able to master when Sloclap’s “online melee action” game heads to PlayStation 4 and PC in late August. The studio also revealed new physical collector’s editions that will only be available online.

It’s kind of shocking to see Sloclap wait so long to reveal the goodies featured in the collector’s version of Absolver. These days, most developers use such reveals as early headline fodder while they prepare convention demos and other, more exciting announcements. But most of the early promotion for Sloclap’s fantasy MMA title, where players can master a plethora of fighting styles during their journey to become the world’s most dangerous melee fighter, has focused on a handful of fighting styles. But this week’s Absolver trailer offers a sneak peek at an array of techniques we haven’t seen in previous footage.

Many of those techniques involve much more than the usual combinations of punches, kicks and throws seen in other fighting games. Players will be able to mix-and-match the fighting stances and styles they find most effective -- or maybe just the most fun to watch -- and that’s just the start of what we’ll see in Absolver. Weapons and supernatural abilities both play a role in combat. Players can wield several different classes of melee weapons, including daggers, fist weapons and swords. The new Absolver trailer also confirms we’ll be able to disarm opponents and use their own weapons against them. The footage also previews the supernatural abilities we’ll be able to use in combat. Sloclap says Absolver players will have access to a variety of powers, some intended to help the caster (like self-healing) while others will have disastrous consequences for the target.

Sloclap and Devolver Digital also published details on the Absolver Collector’s Editions that will be sold online next month. Those willing to spend a little extra on their copy of the game will take home a variety of physical goodies, including some Absolver stickers, a 52-page art book and a 1:1 scale replica mask that should be especially popular with the cosplay community. Only 6,500 collector’s versions will be manufactured, split evenly between PC and PS4, and they’re currently available for pre-order from SpecialReserveGames.com.

Absolver is in development for PS4 and PC. The game debuts Aug. 29.
