Game development studio 2K Silicon Valley has changed its name to 31st Union. Even though they haven’t released any games yet, they are already expanding with one more office in Spain. The company is founded by industry veteran Michael Condrey, who was the co-founder and former studio head of Sledgehammer Games. He is best known for his work on Dead Space and the Call of Duty series.

The new 2K studio had over 1000 names to choose from, but 31st Union was picked to 'represent the spirit of California', as California was the 31st state to join the Union. It was also revealed that 31st Union is working on a new IP that “is ambitious and inspired,” but hasn’t revealed any more information. Given that it hasn’t been that long since the company was founded, we can expect that it will be a couple of years before the studio pushes out something meaningful. More information about the upcoming game will be revealed in the coming months.

“Our name and studio represent the spirit of California in its rich diversity of thought, art, music, innovation and cultural representation that have defined the current golden age of entertainment and technology here in Silicon Valley," 31st Union's head of strategy, Tyler Michaud, said in a press statement. "In revealing our new identity and announcing the expansion of our operations, we’re shifting into an exciting next phase of growth to include more voices and bring our vision to life around the globe.”

Michaud also added that "diverse perspectives and experiences are crucial to creating a truly global entertainment experience with a deep connection to passionate fans." This explains the new office in Spain.
