Developer Platinum Games (creators of the Bayonetta series, Astral Chain, NieR: Automata, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance) has just announced that the release date for the physical retail edition of their action-adventure, hack-and-slash title The Wonderful 101: Remastered will be delayed. Originally, the remaster was announced for release in late May. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it has been moved to June 30 for North America and July 3 for Europe. This news comes from Platinum Games’ official Twitter account.

The Wonderful 101 is an action adventure title that was originally released in 2013 for the Nintendo Wii U. The game follows a horde of superheroes which the player is tasked with controlling. These heroes, who hail from all over the world, must team up to protect the earth from vicious alien invaders. This band of 100 heroes has the ability to use their unique skills to complement each other and create a variety of forms, which is called the “Unite Morph” system. Players have the ability to morph into swords, whips, hammers, and fists. This skill is also used for traversing the world and solving environmental puzzles such as building bridges and hang gliders. As is the hallmark of Platinum Games titles, The Wonderful 101: Remastered looks flashy and never lets up when the action starts.

Its 2013 release saw The Wonderful 101 being showered in critical praise, but it failed to meet sales expectations. The few criticisms against it are the supposedly hard learning curve paired with its unconventional and at times clunky controls on the Wii U. The Remastered version hopes to remedy all of these issues and tune the game’s controls and gameplay to make it more accessible for more audiences, whether they’re on console or PC.

The Wonderful 101: Remastered’s digital editions will still be released for the originally planned dates of May 19 for North America and May 22 in Europe. The Wonderful 101: Remastered will be available on three platforms: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam (region specific) for $39.99.
