The Witness released on PS4 and PC back in January, and iDigitalTimes praised its stunning visuals and mind-melting puzzles. Now that the Xbox One version has released, how does it compare? Good news: it’s pretty much identical.

For those that don’t know, The Witness is a first-person puzzle game from celebrated game designer Jonathan Blow, featuring hundreds of puzzles spread across a small island. It’s all deceptively simple, as what starts out as an easy romp through the basics becomes more and more complex as the puzzles start taking all sorts of different forms.

While the content of The Witness on Xbox One is identical to what has been previously released, this review will serve as a technical one. The Witness runs fine on Xbox One compared to PS4. I had both versions pulled up at the same time, and didn’t notice any major differences when switching between the two. If anything, the Xbox One version might have slightly dimmer colors, but that could also be due to the settings of the two consoles.

Though nothing about the game has changed, it’s still worth your time to play The Witness if you haven’t yet. Mysterious yet inviting, wandering on the island makes you want to see more of the lush environment and the diverse locations. While you may get stuck on a puzzle or two, that’s okay. Simply move on to the next area and come back later.

Of course, this stops being interesting once you’ve run out of areas to go to and are instead left with the handful of puzzles you haven’t figured out yet. Difficulty in The Witness ramps up fast, so get ready to start having to look up puzzle solutions or go crazy from trial-and-error.

If you like puzzle games and haven’t played The Witness, now’s the perfect time. If you’re curious at all about it, definitely give it a try. If you know you do not care for puzzle games or something as slow-paced as The Witness, be sure to steer clear for your own sake.
