A Way Out hits consoles this March Hazelight

A Way Out, the indie-esque, co-op prison escape adventure game from Hazelight and EA, finally has a release date. As announced at The Game Awards, A Way Out will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC starting March 23.

Additionally, A Way Out will be offering a “Friend Pass Free Trial” to anyone who buys a copy. Since A Way Out can only be played in co-op, this pass will enable a player to allow a friend to join the game session, even if that person doesn’t own a copy of A Way Out.

A Way Out is a unique co-op experience. The two main characters, Leo, who is cocky and quick to use force, and Vincent, who is controlled and calm, each come with their own history that players will discover as they play. The story is a genre-transcending narrative that’s meant to be played with someone you know,” said Josef Fares, the writer and director at Hazelight, in a press statement. “We developed the game to be experienced with a friend on the couch, but since that isn’t possible for everyone, those who download the friend’s pass free-trial will be able to play the entire game online with a friend who owns the full game and still get an awesome experience.”

The free pass trial will be available when A Way Out launches on March 23 and will require both players to have active PSN or Xbox Live accounts, like any other online game. Those playing on PC only need access to an internet connection.

A Way Out stars Leo and Vincent, two men who work together to break out of prison. Once free, the duo continue to work together, but details on the story remain scarce. Gameplay will vary widely from action to puzzles to adventure, with a variety of mini-games adding even more variety.

So what do you think? Are you excited to start playing A Way Out on March 23? Will you use the Friend Pass Free Trial to share the gaming goodness with a buddy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
