Episode 11 ended with the Liars learning, while leaving Charlotte DiLaurentis’ funeral, that she was thrown from the church tower and didn’t commit suicide. We know that Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna all returned to Rosewood after five years to testify in favor of Charlotte’s release from the institution, where she was serving out her sentence for stalking and torturing the Liars. Spencer, Emily and Hanna all spoke in favor of Charlotte’s release, as did Mona. However, Aria did not; she told the judge that she would not feel safe is Charlotte was released.

But it seems the only person whose safety was in jeopardy was Charlotte’s, as she turned up dead the day after she was released. In true Pretty Little Liars fashion, Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna congregated at Charlotte’s funeral as a new mystery brews.

The Liars are curious as to why Sarah Harvey attended the funeral. She enters the church, dressed in all black and wearing a black veil. After the funeral, she leaves with an unknown man, without saying anything to anyone. Then Lorenzo (who’s apparently been taken off of suspension in the five years since last season) tells the Liars that they must stay in Rosewood for questioning as Charlotte's suicide is actually a homicide. She was already dead when she was thrown from the church tower.

In Episode 12, Aria and Ezra are looking mighty suspicious as the investigation into Charlotte’s murder begins. Aria quickly leaves town, back to her home in Boston. Suspicions surround Aria as the Liars realize that Aria left the The Radley hotel during the time Charlotte was killed. Apparently, she was meeting Ezra, but at this point, no one knows why.

We know that Aria just learned that Ezra is back in Rosewood and is having a hard time after the woman he was seeing died. However, in the episode promo, we see Ezra approaching the church as Charlotte enters, which makes him look suspicious. The Liars aren’t thrilled that they have to take up their old school sleuthing style to figure out what’s going on.

Speaking with Lorenzo, Alison may admit that she is no longer confident that her friends aren’t involved in Charlotte's murder.

Meanwhile, we learn that Emily hasn’t visited her father’s grave since he died. Her mother tries urges her to go but she insists she is still not ready.

The rest of the story unfolds Tuesday when Pretty Little Liars Season 6 Episode 12 airs at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
