Fans of the original Warcraft series are in for a treat, as GOG.com is offering a healthy dose of nostalgia for sale on its site. Both Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II Battle.net Edition are now available.
Blizzard had previously partnered with GOG for a re-release of the original Diablo game.
The real-time strategy game Warcraft: Orcs & Humans was first released in 1994 to both commercial and critical success. This would be the game that started the RTS style that Blizzard would be known for. One feature that had players hooked was the funny responses that units gave when clicked repeatedly.
According to GOG, this latest version of the game continues to have the feel of the original, with the main difference being that it has been “updated to run flawlessly on modern operating systems.” The game is priced at $5.99 and is available for both Windows and Mac.
The sequel, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness was released towards the end 1995 and experienced success, with it being named the Game of the Year in 1996. The Warcraft II Battle.net Edition offers the original sequel and its expansion Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal.
For Warcraft II, GOG gives players the option to choose between two versions, much like what it did with the original Diablo release. The first version gives players the authentic experience, while being a “fully functional multiplayer with Blizzard’s Battle.net online gaming service.” The second, which is the updated version, comes with fixes in order to have “full compatibility with modern machines as well as hi-resolution support and upscaling.” Unlike the first game however, this one is only available for Windows, and is priced at $9.99.
GOG reminds players that for those who want to access Battle.net multiplayer, they need to configure Router and Firewall Ports.
GOG also offers players a chance to buy the two games through the Warcraft I & Warcraft II Bundle, which is priced at $14.99.
The original Diablo is also available on GOG, and is priced at $9.99.
