Publisher THQ Nordic and developer KITE Games announced an October 19 release date for The Valiant on PC, a real-time strategy game set in 13th century Europe and the Middle East. The Valiant will launch on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG. Versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One have also been announced, but at the time of writing, these have not yet been given a proper release date. Besides the release date for PC, THQ Nordic also showed a new environment trailer for The Valiant. Check it out below.

The trailer shows medieval combat across various terrains, with troops fighting their enemies using a combination of arrows and swords. The environments in The Valiant look really crisp and detailed, a sure treat for those looking for medieval-era RTS games, a genre in which very few are willing to invest nowadays.

The Valiant is a squad-based RTS focusing more on unit deployment and management than building and construction. It tells the story of Theoderich von Akenburg, a former crusader knight who has retired from the battlefield due to the cruelty of war. Fifteen years ago, he and a former brother-in-arms, Ulrich von Grevel, found a fractured piece of an ancient artifact called the Rod of Aaron. In the present, a young monk named Malcom approaches Theoderich, stating that the Rod holds powers that were never meant to be wielded by mortals, and that his comrade Ulrich has become obsessed with gathering the pieces and unifying the rod, which could possibly lead to the world’s destruction.

Forced to take action to locate the remaining relics before they fall into Ulrich’s grasp, Theoderich embarks on a campaign across Europe and the Middle East, meeting various enemies and allies along the way. The Valiant features 15 hand-crafted single-player missions with cinematics and difficulty levels and various multiplayer modes for those not very interested in the campaign. You can either go cooperative with friends in the three-player “Last Man Standing” mode or play competitively in multiple PvP game modes that support 1v1 and 2v2.
