The yet to be released psychological thriller Those Who Remain has been confirmed to be playable in the upcoming Gamescom 2019. The news was announced by publisher Wired Productions (GRIP: Combat Racing, The Town of Light) and developer Camel 101 (Syndrome, Orczz).

Those Who Remain is a first-person psychological thriller set in the sleepy town of Dormont: a sleepy town plagued with disappearances. Soon, uneasy and irrational fear begins to spread and darkness becomes the norm in the town of Dormont.

Players will assume control of Edward, a man living the perfect life with his beautiful wife and his perfect little daughter. Mistakes and bad choices happen that ultimately amount to him driving through the night to Dormont to end a secret affair – one that he never should have begun. His horrific ordeal, still unknown to him, will start as soon as he pulls in at Dormont’s Golden Oak Motel.

Based on what we’ve seen so far in its trailers, Those Who Remain will follow the tried and tested formula of most survival psychological horror games: dark, in first-person, and with minimal to no HUD at all. The player’s survival depends on navigating Dormont and sticking to places with light for protection and staying away from darkness by any means necessary. We’ve yet to see if combat is an essential facet of Those Who Remain, but currently, it looks and feels more focused on puzzles and getting over scares than combat. Aside from health as your resources, you also need to monitor your sanity, which is affected by delving deeper into the darkness of Dormont. Ultimately, the choices and decisions you make on your own and with Dormont’s citizens will determine the story’s ending, with multiple branches to play through.

The horror title will be launching for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. As of now, no release date has been confirmed yet for Those Who Remain. Its Steam Page currently shows a release date of 2019.

For those whose interests have been piqued, gameplay footage should be available soon as Those Who Remain will be playable for members of the press during Gamescom 2019, which will be running from August 20 to 24.
