For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it's not all about Banjo and Kazooie as the Nintendo Direct also revealed a new fighter joining the roster. It is none other than Terry Bogard from the Fatal Fury series.

In introducing this new fighter, the Nintendo Direct announcement went back to the days of Neo Geo. The video starts with an invitation envelope with many of Neo Geo's characters trying their best to catch it. Characters that attempt to get the invitation include Iori Yagami of King of Fighters and Nakoruru of Samuria Showdown, who fails to get the envelope despite help from her hawk Mamahaha. The envelope eventually ends up on the ground and picked by none other than Terry.

While the announcement sent a wave of nostalgia to old fans of fighting games, it left a lot of younger gamers scratching their heads. On Twitter a lot of players where asking who Terry Bogard was.

So just who is Terry Bogard anyway? Well, he first made his appearance in Fatal Fury, which was released in 1991. Back then this was SNK's attempt to try and ride the popularity of Street Fighter II. However, at that time Neo Geo only offered access to three fighters. Aside from Terry, players could use his brother Andy, and their fried Joe Higashi.

In the game, Terry joins the King of Fighters tournament hoping to avenge his father who died at the hands of Geese Howard, yes that's really his name. He first appeared with his red cap, jeans, red jacket, and sneakers. However, by the time Fatal Fury 2 arrived, Terry had the arms of his jacket torn off and this would become his trademark style. While Street Fighter was still popular, this appearance of Terry got the notice of many players and served as part of the appeal of the Fatal Fury franchise.

Terry Bogard is set to arrive on November 4 and is the fourth character to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of the Fighter Pass. He follows Banjo and Kazooie, who were officially released on September 4.
