The Super Mario Bros. Movie Illumination Entertainment

The Super Mario Bros. movie starring Chris Pratt as the iconic Mario was released in theaters back in April. Now, the highest-grossing video game movie of all time has arrived on various digital platforms, just less than a month after its cinematic release.

A Massive Hit

The Super Mario Bros. is a film adaptation based on the iconic Super Mario games developed by Nintendo. This movie is about two broke Brooklyn plumbers, Mario and Luigi, brothers who just wanted to make a name for themselves in the Brooklyn plumbing industry after ditching their previous jobs.

One day, Brooklyn suffered from a massive flooding problem. In an attempt to fix the issue, the brothers went to the city's underground piping system where they found a huge and mysterious pipe. It turns out that this pipe is a portal that teleported them to different paths.

Mario was sent to the Mushroom Kingdom, which is ruled by Princess Peach, voiced by the talented Anya Taylor-Joy. Luigi, on the other hand, found himself in the Dark Lands, home to the movie's main protagonist, the evil Koopa King Bowser, played masterfully by Jack Black.

Mario is voiced by Chris Pratt, who is best known for his role as Starlord in Guardians of the Galaxy and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World trilogy. Luigi is played by Charlie Day, who also starred in Pacific Rim as the nerdy Dr. Newton Geiszler.

Those who are familiar with Nintendo's games will be happy to know that Donkey King is in the movie as well. He is voiced by none other than Seth Rogen, who is known for his roles as Britt Reid in The Green Hornet and the cheerful and always positive Pumbaa in the live-action remake of The Lion King.

Anyway, the movie was a massive success, so much so that it is now regarded as Mexico's highest-grossing movie of all time. Aside from that, The Super Mario Bros. has earned over $1.21 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
