It’s no secret that Arya Stark is on a long-term mission of vengeance, and it looks like her quest will start to be fulfilled in Game of Thrones season 6. Spoilers for the next season, as well as Winds of Winter spoilers, are of course always a matter of speculation. But I can’t help but wonder whether Arya will manage to make it back and kill the name that’s at the very top of her death list… Cersei, Queen Mother of Westeros.

Will Arya Kill Queen Cersei In Winds Of Winter Or Game Of Thrones Season 6?

Arya’s storyline in Game of Thrones is actually behind the books, which is something of a rarity these days. By the end of A Dance With Dragons, Arya is (spoilers follow) no longer blind, and a full-on apprentice of the House of Black and White. In neither book nor show is her training anywhere near complete, and in neither book nor show is she doing a terribly great job of becoming “no one.” That is, she’s great at killing and good at changing her face, but she can’t forget that she’s Arya of House Stark. After all, she’s learning to kill so she can get her revenge on the many people who have done grievous harm to her or her family and friends.

Top of that list is Queen Cersei, who in the absence of King Joffrey and Lord Tywin is the closest thing left to the head of the Lannisters. In Arya’s mind, she holds responsibility for her father’s death and for the Red Wedding. That’s good enough reason to kill her. And there’s no reason why Arya can’t do it. She’d have to get back to King’s Landing first, of course, but if and when she gets kicked out of the House for not truly giving her identity away, she’ll probably head back there. There’s a certain poetic justice—Cersei is terrified that a dwarf (Tyrion) is hiding in the walls of King’s Landing to strike her down when she least expects it, but in truth it will be a small child who does the same thing.

Of course, Cersei’s death may not fall in the realm of Game of Thrones season 6 spoilers anyway—she has a lot left to live for. According to the prophecy, she has two more children to bury first… and a city to run further into the ground before Aegon and Daenerys each arrive. That’s assuming she survives her trial by combat, of course. Cersei has a lot of harm yet to do, but I think Arya will be the one who finally takes her down. I hope Arya will be the one—she certainly deserves it.
