Once you play The Sims 4: City Living for long enough, chances are you’ll notice a pop up window inviting you to the circus, opera or underground concert at an abandoned warehouse in the fashion district. It appears the more Sims you know, the more likely you’ll get the invite.

The hidden events, familiar to most Sims players as ‘rabbit holes,' were more frequent in The Sims 3. They are objects that Sims can enter or complete activities in, such as the workplace, but the game camera does not enter. You cannot see what your Sim is doing inside. So how do they work in The Sims 4 ?

You’ll get a call earlier in the day inviting you to an event, specifying a time later in the day. Around the mentioned time, you’ll get another call and if you agree, you’ll be whisked away to the event. Your Sim may change into a different outfit depending on the event. The circus is a casual outfit, opera is formal and the concert is party

To get to the event, Sims will get in the elevator or walk to the side of the lot and disappear. They automatically return once the event is over, sometimes with a new moodlet. You’ll receive a notification saying if your Sim enjoyed it or not. For example, one of my Sims went to the opera and said he almost fell asleep at the end.

Some players have reported glitches with these new rabbit holes. Expressing the issues on reddit and The Sims forums, players said they receive the first call but then their Sims don’t get notified to leave for the event. If you are experiencing problems, report them on EA’s forum here.
