On Scandal Season 6, episode 6, which airs at 9 p.m. EST Thursday on ABC, viewers will find out who killed president elect Francisco Vargas. At this point it remains unclear who will be revealed as the assassin in this episode; however, a promo features Olivia Pope asking someone “was it you?” This hints the killer could be someone close to Olivia.

So far, prior episodes have suggested that several people may have orchestrated the death of Francisco Vargas, including Tom Larsen and Cyrus Beene. However, Olivia’s team has uncovered that both Tom and Cyrus are innocent. Still, Cyrus is still in jail and Tom may or may not be dead, after being strangled by a fellow maximum security inmate.

Viewers learned in episode 5 that Jake was hiding a huge secret, which may be the clue behind who killed Vargas. Jennifer Fields, the woman who supposedly has information about Vargas’ death is actually alive. Jake staged an explosion at a cabin in the woods for Quinn and Charlie to find. However, the woman was alive all along. Jake staged her death to protect her identity.

Olivia’s father, Eli Pope appears to be back in the business of secret government agencies. When Olivia discovered a paper trail, which could connect her to paying Tom for framing Cyrus (which isn’t true, we assume) she went to her father. Eli then went to an unknown woman, who claimed the setup was an “insurance policy” to keep Olivia in line.

While Eli is no longer the head of B613, the interaction indicates that there is an organization or people in positions of power above B613. The woman essentially tells Eli there is nothing he can do about Olivia’s inadvertent connection to Vargas’ death.

Who will be revealed as Francisco Vargas’ killer? We will find out in the upcoming Season 6 episode 6, called “Extinction,” which is best viewed on television or live online through ABC Live.

Scandal Season 6 episode 6 premieres at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
