Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date At Mobile World Congress? How And Why Rumors Conflict

There are many conflicting rumors about when the Samsung Galaxy S8 will launch. Some reports suggest Samsung will host a standalone unveiling event in April, while others suggest the device’s market launch may happen in April. However, with no confirmation from Samsung about the device’s unveiling and availability.

Recent reports suggest Samsung may host a standalone event for the Galaxy S8 April 18, possibly in New York City. The manufacturer is known for hosting Unpacked events in New York to unveil its latest Galaxy Note device, with with the Galaxy Note 7 being announced at the Hammerstein Ballroom and the Galaxy Note 5 being announced at Lincoln Center. The last time Samsung showcased a Galaxy S device on its own was the Galaxy S4 in 2013, which was unveiled at Radio City Music Hall.

While Samsung has announced its last three Galaxy S devices at MWC, but that doesn’t mean the manufacturer won’t change direction once again. Devices in the Galaxy Note line were announced during IFA in Berlin in September, before behind showcased on their own in August. Samsung has also hinted at having special plans for the Galaxy S8 launch, but has yet to elaborate on what that means.

Still, there are rumors in favor of a MWC unveiling. Other recent reports suggest that Samsung will have a select amount of Galaxy S8 handsets showcased at Mobile World Congress. Samsung is unlikely to showcase its latest devices without an official unveiling, unless that is the special plan the manufacturer has in store.

At this time, it may still be early for Samsung to send invites to MWC events. In 2016, invites to the Galaxy S7 launch went out in late January.

It is possible for Samsung to have an early unveiling for the Galaxy S8 and a late market launch, as it did with the Galaxy S4. That device was announced March 14, 2013 and became available April 27. However, in recent years, Samsung has attempted to have device on the market about one week after launch.

While consumers await the Galaxy S8 release date, other rumors suggest features such as a bezel-less display with no home button and an AI personal assistant.
