Disney's investment in Epic Games is finally reaping its benefits, as according to a new report, the game development studio is now working on a new extraction shooter game for the entertainment giant.
This follows the recent investment that Disney made in Epic Games, and many have questioned what this will deliver apart from the metaverse-like experience that was said to be similar to or built from "Fortnite."
Epic Games Is Working on an Extraction Shooter Game for Disney
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Epic is set to release a Disney-themed extraction shooter game this November. It was revealed that this game from Epic will be the company's "comeback" following the challenges it faced this year as "Fortnite" saw a drop in its player base that led to as many as 1,000 employees being laid off.
Based on the statement from Epic Games' senior director of communications, Liz Markman, "We are building a new games and entertainment universe of Disney experiences," teasing the future developments from this partnership.
Here's What to Expect From Epic and Disney's New Shooter
This new Epic Games and Disney extraction shooter game will reportedly deliver an experience that is similar to "Arc Raiders," according to Engadget.
That said, this new game will feature many aspects from Disney's IP, including its characters, and is also expected to be a multiplayer game.
As per Bloomberg, many internal reviewers of the project have been worried that the game may not deliver an original experience but said that it could be the most promising among the three titles Epic is developing.
According to current and former Epic employees Bloomberg spoke to, several affected employees from the recent layoffs were also working on these unannounced Disney games.
One big question remains. It is still unclear whether this new extraction shooter will be a standalone game or incorporated as a mode in "Fortnite."
