Reports out of Korea indicate the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus may outsell the Galaxy S8 when the devices release, which will likely be sometime in April. Sources told the Korean site, Naver, that Samsung will produce more Galaxy S8 Plus for the device’s launch, as it expects the larger model to be more popular. This prediction is highly plausible, considering the manufacturer has seen similar sales trends for its older Galaxy S devices.

Samsung first began releasing two flagship models at once with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015. While Samsung expected the Galaxy S6 to sell better due to being the less expensive model, consumers favored the Galaxy S6 Edge, tech blog SamMobile noted.

Samsung saw a similar sales pattern with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge; the S7 Edge accounted for 70 percent of sales between the two devices. Samsung has learned that the higher price of the curved display-models has not stopped consumers from favoring the model.

Rumors suggest both Galaxy S8 models will feature a dual-edge curved display and both may be phablet sized. However, the Galaxy S8 Plus is expected to feature a 6.2-inch display, while the Galaxy S8 may have a display around 5.7 inches.

Several sources have suggested the Galaxy S8 price may start at $849, which could indicate a price of $900 or more for the Galaxy S8 Plus. These figures have not yet been confirmed, but Samsung is likely hoping consumers will continue to not see a higher price as a deterrent. Typically, prices for Samsung’s smartphones are not as high as they are projected prior to launch.

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus March 29 and release the devices April 21.
