In what could be considered as a big step in the development process, the Rollback Netcode Beta for Rivals of Aether is now available to the public. For those wondering what “rollback netcode” even means, it’s a feature in the game that’s expected to improve online matches, particularly for those with laggy connections.

According to the team at Rivals of Aether, those joining the beta should expect some issues. For example, it’s possible to experience some crashes at the start of the match.

If you’re still interested in joining, the Rollback Open Beta is only available through Steam. The first step is to add the game to your Steam library. After that, just do the following:

  • Right-click Rivals of Aether in your Steam library to bring up the options menu.
  • Select Properties. Then, select the Betas tab on the left of the properties window that opened up.
  • Open the dropdown menu, scroll down, and select “rollback – Rollback Open Beta.”
  • Once selected, you can close the menu.
  • After you select this branch, you should see that Rivals has an update queued.
    • If you can’t see that, simply close Steam and reopen it until Rivals of Aether gets an update.
    • Once you open the game, you’ll know you are on the right branch once you see the Rollback Netcode Open Beta Loading Screen.

Going back to the Rollback Netcode Beta, the team revealed that this is limited on Steam and won’t support Workshop characters or even any modes outside of online 1v1. As the open beta progresses, the team added that they’re planning to test it on other platforms and see if the game is feasible for consoles.
