Rocket League is now out on the Xbox One, joining the PS4 and PC in awesome car-soccer madness. If you were wondering if the Xbox One version is worth your time, the short story is ‘yes, very much so.’

Rocket League, for those who somehow missed out on one of the biggest releases of last year, is basically a game of soccer where all the players are actually cars. Matches are (commonly) 3-on-3 affairs, with players competing to push a giant ball into the opposing team’s goal. To do this, players have a small handful of moves, such as a boost, roll move and short dash.

Matches are kept short, each one being a little longer than five minutes thanks to replays and other game stopping moments. The team with the highest score at the end of the match wins. Duh.

In addition to online play, there is also an offline season mode, where you can guide a team into the playoffs. Matches are kept short, and jumping into the next game is almost instantaneous, so playing through a full 28-week season ends up only taking about three hours.

For those who already know what Rocket League is all about, you’re probably wondering if the Xbox One version is technically as good as the PC and PS4 versions before buying. Over the course of a few hours playing both online and offline, I had no issues whatsoever.

Matches were made almost instantly. There was no lag from anybody on the field. It all runs as smoothly as you hoped.

The only major downside with Rocket League on Xbox One is the fact that there is no cross-platform play. Playing on PS4 will also allow you to play with those on PC at the same time and vice versa. This will not be the case for Xbox One gamers, who will only be playing against other Xbox One players.

Graphically, Rocket League continues to shine. The new Rocket Trail from Sunset Overdrive both looks and sounds really cool, and the demolition effects always get a chuckle out of me when I drive by them (or cause them!).

As for the new content coming to the Xbox One version, players get to tinker around with two new vehicles, three sets of wheels and additional cosmetic changes. The full list of new gear is below:
