An interesting update. Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games dropped some big news today. It turns out that Red Dead Online is set to be released as a standalone game. The wait won’t be long either, as the standalone version is going to be released on December 1.

What this means is that new players no longer need to buy Red Dead Redemption 2 in order to play Red Dead Online along with access to future content updates. It should be exciting to see new players experience a world that continues to evolve as they take on different roles and craft their own outlaw trail on the frontier.

Those new to Red Dead Online are going to need to choose from five unique Specialist Roles. There’s the Bounty Hunter, where players get the chance to apprehend different criminals from the lowlifes and all the way to the gangs. Those who want to earn cash the safer way can always go for being a Trader.

There’s also the Collector for those who want to go out and find exotic treasures. The Moonshiner, meanwhile, has players run their very own underground distillery. Finally, the newest role is the Naturalist, which has players learn more about the animal kingdom.

Additionally, there's an overarching series of missions for all players called A Land of Opportunities. These story-based cooperative missions can be played with two to four players. In these missions, players help a widow named Jessica LeClerk as she tries to get revenge on the men who killed her husband.

Players can also take part in Showdown Modes. These are competitive modes that have players and/or teams fight in classic gunfights as well as other objective-based competitions like taking over territory or capturing supplies. Free Roam missions, meanwhile, depend on how noble or nefarious a player is. Other modes include public or private games of Poker, competitive Free Roam Events and even Daily Challenges.

Red Dead Online will be available for purchase from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Launcher, Epic Games Store and Steam. The game is being offered at an introductory price of $4.99, which is 75% off the regular price. This is only offered until February 15, 2021.

Those who have Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series consoles won’t have too much problem playing older versions. This is because versions for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are playable for the next-gen consoles through backward compatibility.

The new standalone version of Red Dead Online needs as much as 123GB of disk space. These is also the choice to unlock Red Dead Redemption 2 through Red Dead Online, though this requires a separate purchase.
