Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is happy to announce that Pyra and Mythra of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are now part of the roster. These newest fighters arrive as part of the Challenger Pack 9 DLC, which brings a new stage and even some music tracks from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Two-in-One
For those not familiar, Pyra is a living weapon that’s used by Rex, the main character. As the story progressed, Mythra was then introduced as a different personality sealed inside Pyra. By fate, the two are connected on the battlefield in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
While the two are different individuals, they are technically one fighter on the game’s selection screen. But during battles, players can switch between the two. Pyra is all about power and Mythra contrasts this with speed. Since players can switch between them, the gameplay offers many possibilities in battles, and this is what makes the pair a unique fighter-duo.
New Stage
For the new stage, players are taken to the Cloud Sea of Alrest. This location is one of the most recognized in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and is set on the back of Azurda, a large creature that swims in the Sea of Clouds. As Azurda moves, players get to see many of the characters and sights of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. These include the large kingdoms, flying ships, and even Titans.
Other New Content
Right now, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate offers three songs from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Players who get the Challenge Pack 9 will have 19 songs in total.
In addition to Pyra/Mythra, there are also the new paid Mii Fighter costumes, like Arthur’s Armor and Helm from the Ghosts 'N Goblins series, as well as the Rathalos Armor and Helm, and the Hunter Armor and Helm from the Monster Hunter series.
In a statement, Nick Chavez at Nintendo of America said that the arrival of the new fighters "adds new layers of strategy." With Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also available for the Nintendo Switch, it’s going to be easier for fans to learn more about Pyra and Mythra.
Challenger Pack 9 is part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2, available for $29.99. The pack includes the three other characters released, which are Min Min from ARMS, Steve & Alex from Minecraft, and Sephiroth from the Final Fantasy franchise.
