As the Xbox One and PS4 Pro marketing war continues, Microsoft isn’t playing games (no pun intended). In late October, we reported Sony’s aggressive marketing plan against Microsoft consoles for this Holiday season. However, it looks like Microsoft has already answered Sony’s boast with a massive $39.9 million marketing campaign for 16 Xbox One commercials that ran 4,118 times in October, mostly on sports channels or TV programs that share its demographic, including South Park.

Via VentureBeat, GamesBeat partnered with iSpot.tv to bring an October report that breaks down just how gaming brands are spending money on advertisments. As I mentioned in a previous article, the Xbox One outsold the PS4 in recent months and it could well be down to Microsoft’s aggressive Xbox push. Check out the data provided by iSpot.tv below:

According to VentureBeat, Xbox spent $39.9 million on 16 commercials that ran 4,118 times and received approximately 1.2 billion TV ad impressions. Meanwhile, Sony had spent $12.1 million on 11 commercials that ran 1,612 times and received approximately 428.6 million TV ad impressions.

Microsoft’s top ad was its Gears of War 4: Launch trailer for Xbox One.

In lieu of the PS4 Pro release in two days (Nov. 10), Sony went full force with the advertisement for Star Wars: Battlefront Rogue One - X-Wing VR. Will this be enough to counter Xbox?

We’re still at the beginning of November and Sony still has time to ramp up the marketing punch for the Holiday season. Will they follow through with their efforts to contend Microsoft?
