Code Vein has officially been released and is available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Developed by Bandai Namco and Shift, this action role-playing game is set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian setting with vampire themes mixed in. Gameplay for Code Vein was inspired by the Dark Souls series with God Eater 3 serving as the inspiration for animation.

Code Vein is set in the not-too-distant future where the world has collapsed due to a mysterious disaster. Once symbols of prosperity, towering skyscrapers now stand lifeless. In the middle of all this destruction is a hidden society of Revenants known as the Vein. This is the last stronghold where the remaining few survivors fight to live. While they have been given gifts of power, this was at the expense of their memories and even a thirst for blood. Those who give in fully to this bloodlust risk becoming a member of the Lost, fiendish ghouls without an ounce of humanity left in them.

Code Vein has players travel through interconnected dungeons trying to unlock mysteries surrounding the vein and find answers about themselves. As players move deeper into the game, they face harder challenges. However, they can switch battle styles and even the loadout of their abilities in order to better handle any obstacles they encounter.

As the players travel, they encounter different characters that offer friendship and services. There are even characters that are willing to team up with the players to help them fight. It is important to note that each partner comes with unique traits that can complement the playstyle of a player or offer abilities that are suitable for the area. It goes without saying that those who want to challenge themselves can go through it alone. Code Vein also offers a cooperative multiplayer mode for players to team up with friends and play through the game together. There are even Special underground sections of the game that have been especially customized for cooperative play and serve as an added challenge.

In a statement, Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. Senior Global Brand Manager Stephen Akana said that the game offers the “die-and-retry" genre of games mixed in with a truly engaging vampire anime story. Akana went on to say that the development team for Code Vein “implemented a lot of options within the game to help newcomers to the genre ease their way into the challenging gameplay while making sure fans of its style of game are provided with a depth of combat options and character builds.”
