What's up with these eggs?
What's up with these eggs? Niantic

It looks like that there are a lot of Eggs being sighted around in Pokémon Go. Initially, it was thought that these eggs might hatch a different Pokémon due to the change in temperature. It appears that this assumption may be wrong.

As it turns out, Team Go Rocket appears to be collecting this new type of Egg, which has been dubbed Strange Eggs. Everything involving the Strange Eggs already started yesterday, October 12, and is expected to run through until next week on October 19.

Here’s the features that you can expect for this autumn event:

  • Strange Eggs have appeared in Pokémon Go.
    • Spark’s early research has shown that Poison-type Pokémon, Dark-type Pokémon, and Pokémon that acquire one of those types via Evolution can hatch from these Eggs.
    • These are:
      • Larvitar
      • Scraggy
      • Trubbish
      • Vullaby
  • Defeat a Team Go Rocket Leader to receive a Strange Egg, and walk 12 km to hatch it.
    • Trainers need to have space in their Egg inventory before their battle with Sierra, Cliff, or Arlo in order to receive a Strange Egg.
    • Strange Eggs continue to be available in Pokémon Go after the event ends.
  • Eggs placed in Incubators during the event are going to need one-quarter the normal walking distance to hatch.
  • Team Go Rocket Special Research is going to be available.
    • Join Professor Willow as he and the team leaders investigate Team Go Rocket’s involvement with Strange Eggs, culminating in a battle with Giovanni himself.
    • This is the last Team Go Rocket Special Research in 2020.
    • For Trainers that have The Shadowy Threat Grows Special Research from earlier this year, they need to complete it first before they can obtain this new Special Research.
  • Poison-type and Dark-type Pokémon are going to be appearing more often in the wild.
    • Look forward to encountering:
      • Spinarak
      • Houndour
      • Poochyena
      • Gulpin
      • Stunky
      • Purrloin
  • Team Go Rocket is going to be more active than usual.
    • Keep an eye out for Team Go Rocket taking over more PokéStops and Team Go Rocket balloons appearing more often.
  • Take a snapshot for a surprise.
  • Team Go Rocket Leader avatar items are now available in the shop.

That’s not all, as it appears that Team Go Rocket Grunts are using these Shadow Pokémon: Diglett, Shellder, Slowpoke, Aerodactyl, and Skarmory.

Team Go Rocket Leaders, meanwhile, also appear to be using Shadow Growlithe, Shadow Drowzee, and Shadow Omanyte. Trainers lucky enough could have a chance to rescue a Shiny version of one of these Shadow Pokémon.

Defeating Giovanni gives Trainers a chance to rescue Shadow Mewtwo. This is the first time Shadow Mewtwo is available in Pokémon Go outside of the Rocket Straight to Victory Special Research, initially exclusive to Pokémon Go Fest 2020.

Once the event starts on October 12, Trainers can save Shadow Mewtwo and other Shadow Pokémon from Giovanni, the Team Go Rocket Leaders, and Grunts when those Team Go Rocket members are piloting Team Go Rocket balloons. However, they won’t be able to encounter the Team Go Rocket Leaders’ new Shadow Pokémon or Shadow Mewtwo from PokéStops until the next day in their local time.

So let’s go and save as many of these Strange Eggs as possible from Team Go Rocket!
