Pokémon GO Celebrates the Lunar New Year with In-Game Event

Kung Hei Fat Choi trainers! Everyone is invited to the new event in Pokémon GO which celebrates the Lunar New Year. It starts today, February 1, and runs until February 7. In this event, the featured Pokémon is Litleo and you can probably guess why.

Trainers can expect these bonuses during the event:

  • Increased chance for Lucky Pokémon in trades.
  • Increased chance to become Lucky Friends.
  • Double Stardust from opening Gifts.
  • 1 extra special trade per day.

The Lunar New Year isn't the only cause for celebration. There's also the next Pokémon GO Tour event which invites everyone to head over to Johto on February 26. There's going to be a free experience along with an exclusive ticketed experience. Read more about it here.

After this major event, another exciting one is happening the next day. It's the Pokémon GO Tour: Live and scheduled for February 27. Just in case you didn't catch that, it's a live event. It's going to take place in these locations:

  • Monterrey, Mexico at Parque Fundidora
  • Kaohsiung, Taiwan at the Taiwan Lantern Festival

In a post, the Pokémon GO team shared that those who join in any of these events get event-exclusive Special Research. Those who buy a ticket to the event and attend in-person have the chance to, among others, earn item rewards and even get an encounter with Mewtwo. Plus, there are Shiny Pokémon appearing more frequently. Ditto is also set to appear in the wild so be on the lookout for that. Tickets for this live event are priced at $25.
