Besides 80 new Pokémon, the Gen 2 update for Pokémon Go also includes new special items, like two new berries to help make catching Pokémon a lot easier.

However, there are certain items added to the mobile game that trainers need to evolve some of their Gen 1 Pokémon.

There are currently five evolutionary items included in the Generation 2 Pokémon Go update (Sun Stone, King’s Rock, Dragon Scale, Upgrade, Metal Coat) and trainers need to combine them with the correct amount of candy to evolve them.

We’ve compiled an evolution guide to let trainers know how much candy each Pokémon needs and what evolution item is needed to make your Kanto Pokémon evolve but how can you get these special items?

Trainers can visit PokéStops in hopes to get an evolution item. However, reports are coming in that the evolution items in Pokémon Go are very rare.

Some threads on Reddit have trainers spinning up to 200 PokéStops before getting a single evolution item. While others are much luckier, it seems the average is at least 100 spins before one of these rare items are dropped.

There doesn’t seem to be any other way to receive these evolution items so you’ll have to go and visit as many PokéStops as possible.

The Generation 2 Pokémon Go update is currently available on iOS and Android.

Have you had any luck getting the new evolution items in Pokémon Go ? Let us know how long it took in the comments section below.
