'Pokémon Go' Cheat Hoax: Timer Glitch Doesn't Yield Unlimited Incense And Lucky Eggs

After three weeks of Pokémon Go, it's starting to get more and more difficult to level up in the game and find new Pokémon to capture. Of course, two of the most effective ways to level up more quickly and to attract more Pokémon are Lucky Eggs and Incense. However, both these items are relatively hard to come by, so you better maximize its potential every time you use one.

A new Pokémon Go "timer" cheat has been making its rounds on the internet, promising Pokémon trainers unlimited Incense and Lucky Eggs . However, that's not entirely accurate. Here's how it works:

1. First, select the Incense or Lucky Egg you wish to use. Once activated, a 30-minute timer begins its countdown.
2. While leaving Pokémon Go on in the background, navigate to the phone's settings
3. Switch off the automatic time and date setting. Manually turn the clock back 30 minutes.
4. Return to Pokémon Go.

​If done right, the timers on your Incense or Lucky Egg are supposed to increase from 30 minutes to a full 60 minutes. It's not "unlimited," but in practice, this should double the effectiveness of your items. However, that doesn't always work either.

According to some Pokémon trainers, the effectiveness of the Incense and Lucky Eggs are still limited to 30 minutes even though the timers are extended. The "unlimited" Lucky Egg myth is definitely busted, as the 2X XP reward expires in 30 minutes even though the timer has not run out. On the other hand, the effective time of Incense is hard to determine as Incense is never consistent.
