'Marvel's Wolverine' PS5 Exclusivity Will Be Bad News For PC Gamers

This means that PC players will have to wait for several years before it becomes available.

"Marvel's Wolverine" is one of the most anticipated PS5 games of the year. Early leaks suggest that it's officially coming in September. It seems we're finally getting closer to that.

According to industry reporting by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Sony Interactive Entertainment has decided to refocus its major narrative-driven single-player titles as PlayStation exclusives once again, limiting or removing day-one PC releases.

The decision is believed to have been communicated internally by PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst.

Marvel's Wolverine Set to Remain PS5 Exclusive at Launch

Every Marvel fan is craving a new installment from the franchise, and "Marvel's Wolverine," developed by Insomniac Games, could be the answer for that.

Despite being announced nearly five years ago, the game is still expected to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 without a simultaneous PC release.

For long-time PlayStation gamers, this is a huge shift in Sony's recent strategy, which had gradually expanded its biggest franchises to PC platforms after console release windows.

PC Releases Reportedly Scaled Back or Canceled

Under the revised approach, only live-service titles and select partner games are expected to continue launching across multiple platforms. Major single-player franchises, however, will remain tied to PlayStation hardware at release.

Reports also suggest that some previously planned PC versions of titles such as "Ghost of Yotei" may have been canceled, per ScreenRant.

Upcoming projects like "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" are also expected to remain PS5 exclusives under the new policy.

Strategy Focused on Strengthening PlayStation Ecosystem

Experts believe Sony's decision is driven by a desire to strengthen its console ecosystem amid rising development costs and increasing competition in the gaming market.

The gaming giant believes that by keeping flagship exclusives within PlayStation, it can boost console sales and drive engagement across its platform services.

However, critics argue that restricting access to PC gamers could limit long-term revenue potential and reduce the global reach of Sony's biggest franchises.
