PlayStation 2 is celebrating its 20th Anniversary as one of the best consoles in the entire market. Sony sold more than 155 Million PS2 consoles worldwide, which makes it the best selling console of all time, even to today.

The PS2 had many new features for the time, and its library was vast. One huge bonus was that the PS2 could be used as a DVD player to watch movies. At the time, DVD players were fairly expensive, and the PS2 served as a decent option considering it also was a game console. The PS2 also added online gaming after some time, along with so many fun games to play such as:

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Bully
  • Need for Speed: Most Wanted
  • Silent Hill
  • God of War and God of War 2
  • Final Fantasy X
  • Battlefield

These were just some of the biggest games, and all were amazing. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was the best selling game for the PlayStation 2, with around 17.33 million copies sold for the PS2 alone. This is even more impressive as only physical copies existed back then, and digital downloads were still a generation away.

The PS2 was a very family-friendly and social console as well. You could have your friends over and play co-op with them or you could play some online multiplayer later in the PS2's life. I know I have many great memories bonding over Dragon Ball Z games, playing against friends and competing to see who was the best.

So, what are your thoughts on Sony's PlayStation 2 turning 20 this year? Did you feel old and nostalgic when you heard the console is hitting its 20th anniversary? What games were your favorites? Whatever your thoughts may be, let us know in the comments below.
