Overwatch Halloween Terror Leak: When Will Event Start?

The next Overwatch event is Halloween Terror, according to a post on the game’s subreddit. Darthchiapet on reddit posted a leaked Overwatch image from a retailer, which features a balance cards promo as well as Reaper’s Halloween skin. Another image appears to be a packing label that states the poster should be placed on Sept. 9, which suggests the new event could start on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Overwatch patches usually drop on Tuesday and the timing also accounts for two to three weeks of play time before we all get tired of Junkenstein and his terror.

It’s unclear what retailer the leak is from as the reddit poster remained relatively cryptic about the sign. We don’t even know if it’s actually legit. We’re in an age where anyone can fake something and post it online in order to make everyone jump to conclusions. But we’re also in an era where it’s hard to hide events people are excited about, especially for a game of this size. I’ve talked to Blizzard PR reps before about event preparation and it isn’t easy. Posts have to be translated into 12 different languages and information has to be given to hundreds of people that all have to keep their mouths shut. If one site or person posts their update hours early, it ruins the surprise completely.

Now that we know the Overwatch event is almost here, it’s time to theorycraft what could be coming in the next patch. Blizzard can go in one of two directions: re-release last year’s Junkenstein’s terror game mode and the skins that came along with it, or create something entirely new to catch player’s off-guard. Since the balance card from the leak had last year’s Reaper on it, I’m guessing we’re getting the former, but anything’s possible. The Summer Games event stuck with the same mode last year, Lucio Ball, but built on it with a new competitive mode. I wouldn’t mind a ranked horde mode where rewards are given to players that shoot omnics with outright precision.

Here are a few of the Halloween skins I want, complete with rants attached:

Headless Horseman Orisa- We already have a pumpkin headed Reaper, why not go one step further with the orange aesthetic. Orisa could use a new skin. I’ve been playing her purple Null Sector and I’m a little tired of playing as an evil terrorist bot.

Mummy Doomfist- Give the badass with the gauntlet some clothes, I’m sure he could use some bandages for warmth.

Pumpkin D.Va- Place the Korean mech pilot in a giant vegetable and watch the internet go nuts. There’s something about flying around the air in a Charlie Brown joke that fans would love. She does have a ton of skins already, but that’s no excuse not to give her more and I’m not just saying that because I’m a D.Va main.
