During its announcement of upcoming server maintenance for inFAMOUS 2 UGC servers, Sucker Punch Productions also dealt a small blow to players eagerly waiting for some positive news on the inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper series. In a post, the studio confirms that it has “no plans to revisit” either franchise at the moment, news that is sure to disappoint many fans of both series.

Here’s the pertinent part of the announcement:

As our games continue to grow in scale and complexity, they require the full attention of our studio. With our focus on our current project, we have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either.

It’s a damn shame for sure, but not one that’s entirely unexpected; it has been quite a while since the studio revisited the inFAMOUS series, and even longer for Sly Cooper. inFAMOUS Second Son and its standalone prequel, inFAMOUS First Light, were the last two entries to the series, released by Sucker Punch on PlayStation 4 in 2014. After nearly six years of silence, the studio then released Ghost of Tsushima, which received critical acclaim and proved to be a commercial hit for the studio and its parent company Sony.

Sly Cooper, on the other hand, has not been touched since 2005. Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves was released with generally positive reviews on PlayStation 2, but Sucker Punch seemingly left the series since then to work on the first inFAMOUS game, released in 2009.

Given the studio’s considerably long development periods, we may not see any new game in both series for quite some time. That said, Sucker Punch did say that it would “never say never to re-opening those doors down the road,” which is somewhat reassuring for those waiting on a new inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper game, no matter how long it may take.

Sucker Punch’s latest title, Ghost of Tsushima, is now available to play on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
