Netflix announced that it has partnered with studio Sublimation to produce an anime series based on Capcom's highly acclaimed Dragon's Dogma video game. This partnership is just one of six that Netflix revealed, with the goal of expanding its content offering to its streaming service.

Netflix has shown the streaming giant is serious about its plan to grow anime content on the service by working with many of the industry's top creators. Production line deals, like the ones announced, are one of the ways that allow Netflix to get the services of top craftsmen in the industry, and include them in the production process.

Netflix Director of Content (Japan) John Derderian said in a statement that the company "aims to be the most compelling and attractive home for anime fans, creators and production studios." This is the reason why Netflix has created an environment that allowed production houses to create and deliver their best work.

Originally released by Capcom in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Dragon's Dogma is an action role-playing hack and slash video game. Played in an open world environment, the game sees players explore, fight monsters and comple quests. One innovation introduced in Dragon's Dogma is the "pawn" system. Players can be accompanied by three AI-controlled "pawns." By 2013, Capcom released an enhanced version subtitled Dark Arisen. The game was ported in 2016 to Windows, 2017 to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and finally earlier this year to Switch. Dragon's Dogma has received positive reviews with Famitsu awarding it Hall of Fame: Gold.

Talking about the partnership with Netflix, Sublimation Inc. Representative Director Atsushi Koishikawa said that the team has long wanted to work on its own title. He added that the studio has "oftentimes worked with partner studios to create partial CGI portions within a given title, so we feel very fortunate to work with Netflix through this production line deal." He added that the team is excited to show anime fans their own unique cel shaded animation, complete with hand-drawn textures.

Other partnerships Netflix announced are with anima Inc. for Altered Carbon: Resleeved, David Production Inc. for SPRIGGAN, Production I.G, Inc. for Ghost in the Shell: SAC _2045, WIT STUDIO for Vampire in the Garden, and bones.inc for Super Crooks.
