NBA 2K18 has been updated on the game’s official launch day to address issues with lost saves and MyPlayer progress. While official patch notes have yet to arrive detailing the adjustments, a reddit post offers the most information we have so far.

“A patch went live earlier today for both XB1 and PS4. The patch aims to fix the missing/lost saves issue. Devs are monitoring to make sure this is the case (outside of their QA testing).

“More details on patch will be coming soon.”

Despite being several hours since the patch’s arrival, 2K has yet to offer the official changelog it has promised. We expect to get more news on the situation soon and will try to update this story as new developments happen. For those who’ve yet to connect to the net, the patch weighs 2.39GB on Xbox One and 4.39GB on PS4.

As stated above, those who’ve lost their saves are encouraged to try the steps listed in this support article. Initial fixes include hovering over the Play Now option at the main menu to ensure content is properly synced and to make sure the correct PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account is currently signed in.

Beyond that, it’s possible to get a clone of the lost data by submitting a ticket to 2K support at the bottom of the linked page. Tickets should include answers to the following questions:

  • Did you participate in the NBA 2K18 Prelude?:
  • Gamertag:
  • Platform:
  • 2K associated Email address:
  • A description of what happened directly before the issue's occurrence:
  • The position, archetype, and overall of the corrupted MyCAREER save(s):
  • Dates the save file(s) were created:
  • Dates those save files were last played (be as precise as possible):

A placeholder file must also be made with the following parameters to create a proper clone:

  • Same position as your missing player
  • Smallest height and wingspan
  • No attribute upgrades

While NBA 2K18 technically launches today in its standard edition, the game was fully available as of Friday for an early tip-off promotion. It’s during these proceedings that the game’s most passionate fans first encountered these issues and reported them en masse. Reports from players suggest the problem still isn’t totally fixed, but the hope is that it makes it less frequent at the very least.

Despite 2K’s quick action to find a remedy for user frustration, this isn’t a great look for this highly anticipated new installment to a massively popular series. As franchise enthusiasts will likely recall, NBA 2K17 didn’t have the most stable launch or post-launch months either. With competition from NBA Live 18 being a very real threat this year, these sorts of mistakes can’t be repeated too many times.

NBA 2K18 is available now on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch and PC.

NBA 2K18 PS4 Review - Great Basketball With A Price
The action is fun and fluid, but the VC grind gets its grubby hands on everything and takes the shine off that noteworthy achievement.
  • Great basketball mechanics
  • Easy for new players to learn
  • MyGM's story content is a great starting point for the future.
  • The Neighborhood social hub feels empty and pointless
  • Microtransactions ruin what would otherwise be a fun experience
  • MyCareer story is a bit dull
