Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has released its fifth free title update. This one is going to bring everyone to the Old World to go against the legendary Black Dragon Fatalis. There’s also going to be a Seasonal Event and, of course, some gameplay adjustments. The update is available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Back to the Old World

When it comes to the Black Dragon Fatalis, there appears to be no record as to where it came from. There isn't even a connection it has to the blighted Castle Schrade. A lot of squads have gone to the castle and have failed to return. As a result, the Guild has requested the General to get the help of the Research Commission and discover the problem. Those brave enough to accept the assignment should prepare for a battle, though the rewards are truly excellent. These rewards include top-tier armor, weapons, and Palico gear to match.

However, there is also the need to face off against the Arch-Tempered Velkhana as it brings its frigid attacks. This more powerful form of the flagship Elder Dragon is arriving as part of a limited-time event quest which starts on October 16.

Seasonal Event

The limited-time event mentioned above, which begins on October 16, is going to last until November 5. During this event, Seliana’s Lunar Terrace is going to be decorated like a graveyard just in time for the Fun Fright Festival. The entire Gathering Hub is going to take part in the monster mash and brings with them some tricks and treats like:

  • A new spectral Poogie costume
  • Monstrous seasonal Palico gear
  • A paid seasonal Handler costume
  • New snowman design
  • Teeth-rotting selection of sweets at the canteen

Hunters that are planning to scare up some fun can redeem tickets from log-in bonuses, seasonal bounties, and event quests to obtain the new Demonlord α+ armor, and new layered armor such as the Skull Scarf, Kadachi Scarf, and more.

Gameplay Changes

This free update is also making some gameplay changes. Those that have the Clutch Claw, for example, can now equip the Clutch Claw Boost skill which lets them wound monster parts more easily and be able to create more frequent slinger ammo drops. New melding options have been added as well along with an expanded list of decorations that allows players to craft and gives players the ability to upgrade charms. There’s also another batch of some rather whimsical new pendant designs.

This latest update also comes with a new paid DLC for Your Room which features giant skulls and bones.

So what do you think about this latest update? Are you bummed to see Monster Hunter World winding down after all these years? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
