Monster Hunter: World x Horizon Zero Dawn
Monster Hunter: World x Horizon Zero Dawn CAPCOM

The first of two planned Horizon Zero Dawn crossover events hits Monster Hunter: World Friday morning, the same day the game debuts on PS4 and Xbox Live, Capcom announced on Thursday. We’ll have to keep waiting for that Aloy costume, but anyone who wants to dress their Palico up like a Watcher can begin the associated event quest this weekend.

Players have to spend a few hours (maybe even a few days) with Monster Hunter: World before they’re ready to participate in the first Horizon Zero Dawn event quest. It’s a pretty simple endeavor, despite the quest’s five-star ranking, but you’re going to need more than beginner equipment to earn the Horizon Zero Dawn promotional items. But the good news is that players will have until Feb. 9 to finish the event quest and claim their Palico’s new gear.

Here’s what we know about MHW’s first event, via Capcom:

  • Event Quest “Lessons of the Wild”
  • Quest Lv : 5★
  • Conditions : HR 6 or higher
  • Location: Arena
  • Main Target : Slay 8 Barnos

Capcom says we’ll get a chance to claim the Aloy-inspired armor and her iconic bow during a future Monster Hunter: World event, but didn’t offer a timeline for that promotion. Capcom also failed to provide stats for the Watcher-inspired armor hunters can earn for their feline companions. We know what Palicoes will look like wearing the full kit but there’s no telling how the armor’s stats will stack up against other palico equipment.

For a sneak peek at the items you can earn from Monster Hunter: World ’s Horizon Zero Dawn crossover events, watch the tail end of the game’s Paris Games Week trailer (starting around 1:40). Then head down to the comments and let us know what other games you’d like to see represented in Monster Hunter: World down the road.

Monster Hunter: World is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game hits consoles on Friday this fall.
