Michael Mamaril was a 22-year-old Borderlands fan who passed away from cancer in 2011. His friend Carlo reached out to Gearbox to ask if they would have Claptrap record a short eulogy for the gamer, a tribute he knew his friend would have enjoyed. Gearbox recorded the tasteful eulogy above, and did Carlo one better. They created Michael as an in-game character for Borderlands 2 who doles out free weapons. In-game he's a pretty cool guy. An unassuming young man in a hoodie, he looks like the bulk of gamers in the world today. He never got the chance to play the amazing game he is a part of, and hopefully his memorial gives fans a reason to appreciate their time in Pandora a little more. Even if the game is one player short.
