The Metal Slug series was introduced as a classic shooter game where players would scroll side-to-side while firing weapons at the enemy. Now, the franchise breathes a new life as it returns as a tactical game more than anything else.

In the recent Summer Game Fest, Dotemu, a video game company that releases retro games on modern PCs, has released a trailer of what appears to be a new Metal Slug game.

The Squad is Back

Metal Slug Tactics is a brand new title from the makers of the original series, Leikir Studio, and it will definitely pique the interest of fans.

Instead of a side-scrolling shooter, players will be able to use Marco, Fio, Eri, and Tarma on a grid to combat Donald Morden’s army.

What’s interesting here is that every map is procedurally generated, which means that you can expect every mission to be different from the last.

The game still uses the original’s art style, so you could say that the time you spend playing this is every bit nostalgic.

Here are other game features:

  • Die and retry mechanics will be employed.
  • Create your perfect team which will be led by Marco, Fio, Eri, and Tarma.
  • Challenge iconic bosses from the Metal Slug series.
  • Choose between iconic brothers-in-arms to create the perfect team.
  • Use the best strategies to beat your enemies in epic battles.

System Requirements

MINIMUM

  • OS: Windows 7
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD FX-8370
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 2 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7770 2 GB
  • DirectX: Version 9.0
  • Storage: 4 GB available space

RECOMMENDED:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7870 2 GB
  • DirectX: Version 9.0
  • Storage: 4 GB available space

As you can see, the system requirements are not that demanding. Sure, the graphics may not be up to par with AAA titles in this generation but the draw here is the nostalgia of playing Metal Slug again.

Although there are no specific release dates mentioned yet at the time of writing, you can already add this to your Steam wishlist.

Are you excited to embark on a mission with Marco and the gang?
