If reports are to be believed, it seems the long-awaited Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is happening and will debut in 2017.

According to Polygon , multiple sources have confirmed the fighting game will be announced at Sony’s PlayStation Experience event the weekend of Dec. 3, specifically during the Capcom Cup 2016 Street Fighter V tournament.

Polygon also reports the Marvel side of the roster will draw heavily from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that Marvel vs Capcom mainstays like Wolverine and Magneto will not be included this time around.

In fact, there will be no X-Men in the upcoming game.

The reason for the X-Men culling is that Marvel does not have “full control” over the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties. Movie rights for those two franchises are with 20th Century Fox and many speculate it’s the reason the X-Men have seen a diminished role in Marvel Comics as a whole.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 was the last installment of the franchise and was released back in 2011. Back then, X-Men like Wolverine, Magneto, Phoenix, Storm, X-23 and Sentinel were playable characters.

Should fans expect some Inhumans to replace the Children of the Atom? We’ll just have to wait and see this weekend if the rumors are true.

In the meantime, we want to know what you think. Are you excited for a possible Marvel vs. Capcom 4 and are you ok with the X-Men being taken out? Sound off in the comments section below.
