Publisher and developer Bonsai Collective officially announced Luna Abyss , a first-person shooter with bullet hell mechanics coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam. Specific PlayStation and Xbox consoles were not mentioned, and a release date has not yet been revealed. That said, the game is now available for wish listing on PC. An announcement trailer has also been unveiled, and you can check out the first teaser for Luna Abyss below.
The trailer shows the very dark environments that players will find themselves in, utilizing the always-cool red and black color scheme. There also seems to be a bit of a horror element to the game, in as much as there’s horror in a shooter like DOOM; it’s great for backdrop reasons and really ramps up the atmosphere. The trailer for Luna Abyss also delivers a bit of gameplay that features just how terrifying it is to see actual bullet hell in first-person.
In Luna Abyss, players play as a prisoner sentenced to explore a derelict, alien, brutalist megastructure sprawling on the surface of a mimic moon called Luna. You are also tasked with recovering forgotten technology deep within this Abyss and the lost colony that it has consumed. An artificial prison guard named Aylin watches your every move as you serve out this terrible sentence.
Your journey through Luna won’t be quiet and peaceful, as these centuries-old ruins are alive with the maddening echoes of the past, specifically the once-prosperous city of Greymont and the terrible fate it suffered. On your mission, you will uncover the mysteries of this mimic moon, and the frightful abyss it holds within its depths. The remnants of the colony are waiting to face you, and in the process, you’ll discover the secrets behind Luna’s downfall and the role you will play in this harrowing adventure.
As for gameplay, the combat seems to be fast-paced with very little room for error, much like a regular bullet hell. However, Luna Abyss has an added measure of difficulty as you now have three axes to contend with instead of the usual two; in other words, you will not only need to watch out from your front and back, you’ll need to watch up top and down below, too.
