The iPhone 7 doesn't look a whole lot different from the iPhone 6s, but Apple has done a whole lot under the skin – it's the company's first IP67 rated water resistant smartphone. The iPhone 7 only arrived in stores on Friday, but tech YouTubers have already shared some creative torture tests to see whether the new Apple flagship is any good.

IP67 water resistance indicates that a device is capable of withstanding 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes, which is adequate against splashes as well as accidental submersion. However, simply dunking a brand-new iPhone 7 into a cup of water is hardly viral-worthy.

While the first YouTube iPhone 7 stress test video starts off with a cup of water, it isn't long until the test moves on to something more cringe-worthy, like Fanta orange soda and hot coffee and milk.

Surprisingly, both the syrupy, sugary soda and the coffee did not penetrate the iPhone's enclosure. The tester also noted that the sugar and the warm temperatures did not cause the touchscreen to malfunction at all. Finally, the tester removed the sealed iPhone 7 from the cup and dissected it to inspect the damage inside, which was zero. The components within the iPhone 7 remained completely dry.

The iPhone 7's water resistance rating was intended for freshwater, only. So what happens when the phone is dropped into the ocean's more corrosive salt water? Unlike the approximately one-minute cup tests in the video before, the saltwater test only asks the iPhone to endure 20 seconds of submergence.

Once again, the iPhone 7 functioned without a hiccup after the stress test. The test may not be as long in duration as the soda and coffee, but it's an impressive feat and we never would have believed any smartphone would survive a salt water bath at all.
