Amazon has been slow to acknowledge there is any breakdown with its S3 services; rather it’s carefully labeled it a case of “increased error rates” rather than the mini internet collapse most users re experiencing right now. The last update Amazon gave was added about an hour ago on the Amazon Web Services Health Status page.

At 1:30 pm ET, the site posted this update:

“We're continuing to work to remediate the availability issues for Amazon S3 in US-EAST-1. AWS services and customer applications depending on S3 will continue to experience high error rates as we are actively working to remediate the errors in Amazon S3.”

So if for some reason the internet seems to be working poorly or sporadically today or pages are taking a long time to load and experiencing errors, there is a good chance AWS’ “errors” have something to do with it. This story is developing so as we learn more about what is happening with Amazon and the various website outages, we’ll be sure to update this post.
