Wondering how to summon Astrals after each of Noctis’ trials in Final Fantasy XV ? It doesn’t work in quite the same way as previous games in the series; you can only call upon your god-like allies in certain areas, after specific story events and under particular battle conditions. Oh, you thought you can use them any time like other Final Fantasy games? Sorry to disappoint.

Sarcasm aside, Final Fantasy XV has five deities you can summon during battles. Unfortunately, you can only use the deities when the summon command is triggered on the screen, and you can’t really choose which Astral you’re summoning at a given time. This sounds a bit more complicated than it is, so check out our Final Fantasy XV summoning guide below. (Be warned: spoilers regarding when you acquire these summons follow below.)

Titan

Titan is the first Astral you can summon in Final Fantasy XV . You unlock this deity at the end of Chapter 4. If you want Titan to help you in battle, you’ll have to let your allies die. More fallen allies means you’ll have better odds of summoning Titan. However, be aware that Titan only comes out in in wide, open locations or flat terrains. If you’re in a forest or by water, don’t expect Titan to pop up.

Ramuh

Ramuh is the second Astral you unlock, during Chapter 5. He’s probably the easiest deity to summon in the game. The longer you’re involved in a battle, the higher the chances Ramuh will come out to help. Ramuh doesn’t have an ideal summoning environment, so you can use him in a dungeon, near water, open-air, etc.

Leviathan

Leviathan comes into play at the end of Chapter 9. She only gives a shit about her bae Noctis, so if he’s in trouble she’ll come out guns blazing during Danger status (if you keep him there long enough). Bad news is you can only summon Leviathan near bodies of water such as lakes or near the coast.

Shiva

Shiva is the second easiest Astral to summon. She comes into play at the end of Chapter 12 and can be summoned anywhere if there’s enough space for her. The chances of her helping your party depends on the other Astrals as she takes on their summoning probabilities.

Bahamut

You have one shot to use Bahamut in Final Fantasy XV ; it’s late in the game and automatic. We won’t say more.

REVIEW SUMMARY
Final Fantasy XV
8.5
Combat, Plot, Characters Create Something Flawed, Beautiful, Fantastic
Despite it's flaws, Final Fantasy XV is a milestone achievement: not just for being completed, but for being completed with polish, aplomb and love.
  • Engaging main cast of characters
  • Fun, fast-paced combat
  • A massive, beautiful world to explore
  • The Regalia!
  • Continuous updates have addressed some shortcomings of the initial release
  • Major aspects of the story feel rushed or absent, particularly toward the end of the game
  • Stealth sequences feel out of place
